batch no. 3
Blimey! You reckon it’s taking me long enough to answer your questions? Sorry about that, friends. Let’s try this again, shall we?
Elizabeth asks: okay, so imagine one of your bloggy friends travels up to montreal for a visit to make sure she gets to see you before you hightail it for that island near france— and you have three days with her– what would you all do? where would you go? what would you eat? what would you wear?
Well, since you’ve already come and gone, I suppose there’s no sense in going on about what could have been when what was, was nothing short of spectacular. I didn’t know how much I needed this weekend until the clouds lifted and I realized I’d been living under them for several weeks. I’m not sure what kind of spell you cast, Miss MacCrellish but my fire has gone from ember to pyre. We declared this the jeans and t-shirt weekend and that is precisely what it was. Our days consisted of lying under the blankets, in our pajamas, on the couch, drinking bottomless cups of coffee, talking about the transitions ahead, doing some creative brainstorming, diving deep into questions and coming up with answers. There was, of course, the purchase of the perfect pair of Providence shoes, dinner at our favorite vegetarian restaurant, fish and scallops with white wine for lunch, dancing to Bonnie Raitt in my kitchen, writing in the café around the corner, ignoring the morning sun in favor of sleeping in and leaving the cameras at home in favor of soaking it all in. But wherever we went, we always came back to the couch. Its velvet folds pulled us in, time and again. It was the weekend when, our most strenuous task was to walk to Studio Bliss to get a massage, the weekend we sent silly videos to friends, the weekend we watched the Royal wedding (because we’re all suckers for love, aren’t we?), the weekend we played soft music in the background. It was the weekend of doing nothing and feeling absolutely no remorse for it.
It was the weekend we dreamed big and knew… that everything was going to be okay.
You have a way with words, my dear. Always love to read your musing. Sounds like a perfect weekend!!
Those films pictures make me want to start lugging around my Minolta Z700 again! I truly miss using that camera, but dang it’s heavy! I’m a wimp 😀 haha

I feel like I spent the week end with you ! So well written ! xxx
hi, jeanine!
we just returned from our trip to montreal and it was so so amazing – beyond anything we could have dreamed! we went to aux vivres twice – since you were there, too, perhaps we shared our meal at the same time?! we also went to crudessence – there are no words! simply divine. we supplemented our veg dining with plenty of walking, and the sore feet/legs we now have was so worth it! the old port on saturday evening was also lovely and the perfect place to wander for our first night there. i am counting the days until we can visit montreal again! xo – emily
oh I cast a spell– but YOUR space in Montreal is what inspires— I am a better person from that weekend– that indulgent, gentle, easy, sweet no pressing, no rushing weekend. I am so grateful– you have no idea– how lucky are we?
xoxo, E
Just what the both of you needed, obviously! 🙂
What a fantastic sounding weekend. We all need more weekends like this. 🙂
I loved your silly video. So madly in love with you both. Now we just have to get Elizabeths passport back so she can come visit us in London.
Oh yes.
So nice and happy. And that picture with the sun shining on the bread is so enticing.

I keep telling the Wayfaring Wanderer that the best things to do in Montreal outside of festival season are usually nothings but she doesn’t believe me. 😀
a weekend that sounds like it will be relived in your hearts and minds whenever you need a lift from a bad day!
