list 22: reasons why i adore him

August 25, 2010

I’ve been, for some strange reason, reticent to write about the English boy lately. Part fear of “What if this ends and I have flaunted my fairy tale for all to see?”. Part me being conscious of and sensitive to all the people around me suffering lost love. And a small part being “What if I annoy my readers and they think… here she goes again about the boy“.

But the truth is, in this present moment, I am living a fairy tale. My life right now is many things, but one of them is butterflies and walking on sunshine and being ridiculously gaga and thinking about a boy every second of the day. I’m a 35 year old going on 18, what can I tell you? I don’t know if the fairy tale will last forever just like I don’t know anything about what life has in store for me in the future. Who am I to predict that it will end with pain, who am I to put this story in the same box as the last one. It’s a whole new chapter and it may very well end with … and they lived happily ever after. I am allowing myself to be totally girly and giddy and goofy and gushy about this affair. He and I are a regular old cheese factory and I am okay with that. Life’s too short and if you find someone that makes you feel like your heart is going to burst because it’s so high on life… then by all means, don’t keep it in. And what, pray tell, are we on this planet for, if not to love and share love? So fuck it. I’m going to tell all y’all that I adore this man and even name a few of the reasons why I think he is, simply put, the bee’s knees:

  1. He makes me laugh. And I know it sounds cliché but trust me, I could not be with a man that doesn’t make me laugh until all breath has left my body. It simply would not do.
  2. Lately, he has been reading Winnie the Pooh to me and sending a chapter every few days. I put it on my iPod and listen to it when I go to bed. His voice is like honey.
  3. The way he kisses me, with both hands on my face, like in the movies. And the way it makes me melt.
  4. He calls me gorgeous girl.
  5. Ok. The British accent. Not gonna lie to you. It’s hella sexy.
  6. He sends me flowers on special occasions. And though he knows that I am not a fan of roses, he always requests that a single rose be added to the bouquet because he’s cheeky that way.
  7. He brings out the silly in me. Picture Iceland and geysers. One geyser in particular. The geyser named Strokkur, which erupts every 5 to 10 minutes. And in between each blow, picture Joe and I, dancing some weird robot dance and rapping ridiculous lyrics that rhyme with Strokkur. You had to be there but the point is, it had us in absolute hysterics.
  8. His ability to tell a story. It captivates me.
  9. He’s an architect, which is especially interesting when we travel together because he points out all the beautiful buildings, which makes me appreciate yet another form of art.
  10. He’s like a teddy bear and gives the best hugs ever. His body feels like home.
  11. His smell. I’ve said it before. It’s like a blend of leather and whiskey and sun kissed skin.
  12. He secretly met with Leonie before she came to visit so that she could hand deliver a hook he made when he was studying metal work at the Kootenay School of the Arts in BC. Have I mentioned that we both lived in Nelson at the exact same time and don’t recall ever meeting? It is one of our many coincidental connections. The hook was accompanied by a card that read I am hooked on you. I fell pretty hard that day.
  13. His friends call him opposite man because he is always seeing the other point of view, which, admittedly, drives me mental on occasion. But I appreciate that he is able to see all sides of things and it means he sticks up for those that don’t have a voice.
  14. He likes to dance. I like to dance. I can’t wait to dance with him.
  15. We are whiskey partners & lovers to the end. It’s one of the many things we appreciate together.
  16. He believes in me.
  17. He loves photography as much as I do. One of my favorite memories is of us walking back to his place one night in January after having had dinner at the pub. There we both were, lying flat on our stomachs taking photos by night of the thin layer of ice on the canal and the way it reflected the street lamps.
  18. His eyes. Green. Gorgeous.
  19. He’s a positive bloke. It’s like a breath of fresh air.
  20. He’s adventurous and loves to travel. Oh! The places we will go.

So now, I am just counting down the days (25 to be sure) until he lands in Montreal. It has been far too long and I honestly don’t know how much more of this long distance I can take before I pack all my belongings and move across the pond.

If I made a list counting the ways in which my lovah boy caused me to fall head over heels, you and I would have many of the same items. The fact that he makes me laugh would also be numero uno. Seriously, I’m right there with you. I gotta get my giggle on 😀

He sends you chapters of himself reading Winnie The Pooh? Oh my! I think I love him too. 😉

Remember that there are others that also have a wonderful love, but they cannot have dreams of possibilities or dreams. Although their love is also very sweet and their hearts have moments to swoon, the knowledge of it’s inevitable end is a constant whisper of sadness. You are indeed lucky.

  19. August 26, 2010 10:32 am

oh yeah…don’t skip THIS stuff…we WAIT for this stuff. not annoying, no way…and better to just swim in it and be vocal about it than meter your words and feelings. loving every bit of your story. glee.

Hey, I’m one of ’em sufferers but I adore reading other people’s romance. It’s hopeful. And however it ends, it doesn’t make this part any less real.

What a beautiful list! I love reading about people in love. It gives me warm fuzzies. 🙂

Also, I hear you on the making you laugh, if my fiance couldn’t make me laugh or I couldn’t make him laugh, I don’t think we’d have got this far. Laughter is so important.

This poem sprung to mind when I read this lovely, lovely post.

    Come to the Edge

    “Come to the edge.”
    “We can’t. We’re afraid.”
    “Come to the edge.”
    “We can’t. We will fall!”
    “Come to the edge.”
    And they came.
    And he pushed them.
    And they flew.

come! jump! leap across that pond! because he is a honey, and YOU are a honey, and the world needs people crazy in love. and if moving in with him is too scary to begin with, you know you are ALWAYS welcome here.

    thanks for sharing your fairytale.

  24. August 27, 2010 7:03 am

Okay… I have to agree with Stupermon. The Winnie-the-Pooh chapter reading reference had me tilting a little over here. And not just because Winnipeg is my hometown (did you know Winnipeg is the Pooh bear’s namesake?) but because what could be sweeter and more swoon-worthy than listening to the bloke you love and long for, reading to you while you make your way to work (or wherever you may be going).

I love that you shared your beaming rays of love light. It’s a wonderful list. I say try not to fret about the future and swirl in this bliss you’re experiencing because truly… isn’t THAT what life’s about? 🙂

BTW, Honey – thanks for sharing that poem. I wonder why so many of us have a fear of flying in that “free-falling” kind of way. Wheeee…..

  25. August 27, 2010 8:35 am

I love this post. I didn’t blog my “courtship” at all because I didn’t feel like it was just too much not only my story and I needed to respect his side too, but I love your openness.

  31. September 5, 2010 2:49 am

This is an absolutely gorgeous post … it’s so lovely to read about your joy in all things love – I think the world needs more such positive and real stories to be told.

What a beautiful love story . . . thank you for being brave and bold and sharing it with us all . . . it reminds me of all the reasons falling in love should be cherished, savoured, and nourished. LOVE!
