filling the well
We sat in a booth at Aux Vivres, sheltered from the cold wind and snow, away from boys and kids and distractions. Just the three of us, all goofy and shmoopy. 3 women, 3 locations, 3 paths, 3 separate lives connected by a crazy glue bond, which defies time and space and circumstance. It is said that 3’s create a sense of completeness and generate a continuous positive energy flow and that is what it feels like when we are together.
And while it happens that one of us occasionally feels out of the loop (for example, they have motherhood in common and I don’t believe that is something I will ever share with them, unless said “kid” is four-legged), we accept, adore and are inspired by each other’s differences.
I am a single girl rediscovering herself and rocking out in Montreal.
Cala is a creative career woman and single mom extraordinaire.
Kat is a radiant peaceful warrior and new mama in a loving relationship.
My well was being filled with inspiration and love and laughter at that table. And just when I felt things couldn’t possibly get any better, Kat reached into her bag and pulled out two little boxes, one for me and one for Cala. Here were the contents of the Emergency Kit she handed to us and this is what the note read.
- An elastic band – it stretches and bends to fit different things but remember, elastics will snap so be aware of how much you stretch.
- A penny – because sometimes you just need some luck!
- A hankie – a hand embroidered bamboo one. great for catching tears and to remind you you’re never alone.
- A band aid – to protect any booboos that happen along the way.
- A paperclip – sometimes you need all the help you can get holding it together.
- A tack – always good for putting on mean peoples’ chairs 🙂
- A safety pin – also great for holding things together and useful if you misplace your tack.
- Matches – to remind you of your own inner light.
- A candle – to keep the light burning while you take some time to remember why you love yourself.
- A button – you are as cute as one and the world coudn’t do without you.
- Chocolate – a sweet and satisfying moment because sometimes you have to create your own (and get an extra boost of energy too!)
- A stamp – because you never know when you gotta stick it to someone or send a love letter.
- An encapsulated monster – oh that’s right! when you need him to open a can of whoopass on someone, stick him in water and watch him grow.
Yeap… you pretty much guessed it. 3 girls, 1 soggy-eyed mess. Have you ever seen such a creative, thoughtful, love-filled gift? Tell me, what would I do without all the women in my life? These beacons of light, messengers of hope, voices of reason, nurturers, comedians, anchors and wings all at once.
I hope I conveyed my love to them. I hope they caught glimpses of gratitude amongst my moments of PMS-y impatience (how PMS can actually trump time with friends you haven’t seen in ages is beyond me). I hope they know how much each moment spent with them meant to me. I hope they realize that they filled my well. Thank you amigos, muskateers, stooges & angels, as in charlie’s (wink).
I feel like we are each going back to our own worlds a little stronger, a little wiser, a little lighter, our souls well fed with love to last us through the months (and hopefully not year) until we reunite again.
And for those times when the energy is depleted and I question everything and I wonder what it is all about anyway, I now have my emergency kit to carry with me everywhere I go.
What an amazing sum up of our lunch. I am still basking in the positivity and love coming out of us (yes, even with your ‘so called’ pms – still as lovely as ever 🙂
Can’t wait till September, call me soon, I ADORE you. N
What a beautiful post to wake up to on the 2nd-to-last day of vacation. You are beautiful and you have beautiful friends!! What lovely photos! And such a great idea that I wonder if I can get permission to copy it for my own group of wonders?
