day 26 – this little piggy…

November 26, 2008

little piggy

A couple weeks ago, on a whim, I bought a bunch of miniature plastic farm animals at the dollar store with the intention of using them as photo props; a fun way of experimenting with depth of field.

Since then, on any given day, you can find toys stuffed in my pockets.  I’ve been taking them on adventures throughout the city (they like the fresh air) and I’ve grown quite smitten with one little guy in particular – this piggy.

I’m thinking a girl needs a companion on her travels and since a gnome takes up too much space, I’m planning on bringing this little piggy with me in February. Perhaps create a whole photo series – the adventures of little piggy.  The thing is, I can’t keep calling him little piggy (yeap, it’s a boy) but I can’t seem to find a good name for him.

Hmmm.  I do believe this is what giveaways are made of.  Let’s have a “Name That Little Piggy” contest.  Leave your suggestions in the comments and whoever comes up with the most appropriate name for little piggy will win a 5×7 print of their choice from my flickr photostream (you don’t have to pick a pig portrait – say that 3 times fast).  Contest ends November 30th at midnight EST.

The adventures have begun.  Already, the little guy has been spotted around town.  I feel like the piggy paparazzi.

Here he is with me at work:

Here he is out and about on a walk:

Here he is, up to no good:

Here he is checking out the night scene:

Here he is taking in the view of the city:

If I do manage to find a pocket-sized gnome any time soon, I’ll take him along on the trip as well.  Little piggy can then hang out with his gnomie – they’ll be bffs.  Oh! The places they’ll go!

For some reason the name Pascal popped into my head. I mean, it has to start with a P right? 🙂

This post has reminded me that I have a little figurine that I have been wanting to do the same thing with. It is rather hard toting around a baby, a camera, and a figurine to take photos of but I’m sure once Moira catches on to what I am doing she is going to be All Over It!

Way too much fun and I love the photos. Norbert keeps coming to mind…don’t ask me why. That’s just what the pig keeps telling me.

Oh, J. It’s first thing in the morning and I’m laughing out loud. I love that piggy and I love your quirkiness. Vintage J.

I think his name is Boink.

If he’s always going to be with you what pops into mind is PB&J like a peanut butter jelly sandwich but it would be short for Potbelly Boy and Jeanine or some such thing. Sorry I’m better at naming children. 🙂

I love the idea of this little guy travelling the world with you and being in a photo series. What a different way of showing off your vacation pics. sort of a Where’s Waldo type of thing except we’ll have to find the little piggy.

Oh, and the pic of him “up to no good” is hilarious.

By the way, if you still have an Etsy shop, a poster of this Piggy Boy ion his various adventures is a must.

i think it’s an awesome idea…to bring your little piggy about and experiment with photographs. i’ve named my computer and my camera and get teased mercilessly for it. it’s an awesome habit.
the first name that came to mind was desperaux. he was a bold, adventurous & unconventional little fellow although his name is surely a mouthful.

    Kevin Bacon.
And this is the cutest idea. I love the picture of him in the puddle.

Since I was born in “The Heart of Dixie”, Alabama…

Hammus Alabammus – an adorable species of pig. The only one in existence resides with the Yokums – their beloved pet, Salomey.

From the old comic strip “Lil Abner” by Al Capp.

OH, this is wonderful! I totally love it. I am thinking that Little Piggie and Gnomie need a children’s book of their own.
