As you know, one of my goals this year is to shoot a roll of film a month. Here are some of my favourites from July. I think maybe I went a bit bonkers for blossoms. Can you blame me?

Is it just me or is summer the only season that can make you feel like you’ve gone back in time, to a more innocent time? Thousands of diamonds sparkling on water, the sound of the ice cream truck, the smell of tomatoes on the vine and fields of clover, the way the wind plays with the clothes on the line, impromptu picnics in the park, grasshoppers and cicadas. Is there anything better than a midsummer’s day?

These came out nicely. Aaah summer. It is a reminder of innocence.

Beautiful! It’s like there’s a mysterious something in these photos, just visible – maybe it’s the spirit of the film, or the midsummer magic floating around. You’re absolutely right about the innocence returning in summertime, too. I think another such time is Christmas, for me, at least. It’s easy to stop noticing the little things when autumn takes the light away – but we can try to keep it up! 🙂

A Vivian Maier, there at the end! That’s my fave.
I agree with you about summer, but I feel like I miss out on a lot of what you talk about, being in SoCal, because it feels like summer so many months out of the year. The only reason I can relate to what you so beautifully wrote about the season is because my parents were from the Midwest (Illinois) and we’d visit their families (my relations) in the summer and it was there where I heard cicadas and saw lightening bugs (neither of which we have here), laundry swaying in the breeze, thunderstorms, melting tarred streets, DAIRY QUEEN, and so many other precious things. Ah, I miss it so. Thanks for bringing it back 🙂 You did go nuts on the blossoms, but nice going meeting your goal! Keep it up!

These are wonderful summer photos! Especially the sleeping wren!
