you little charmer, you

September 11, 2013

it just rained. the kind of rain that hits hot pavement and pops like little white fireworks and leaves everything feeling even more muggy that it was before. a bit like the bayou, but canadian style. there are dozens of toads hopping across the road, big ones and baby ones. i don’t know where they are going but i wish they wouldn’t choose such a precarious way of getting there. and the crickets are going absolutely crazy and it smells of corn husks from the surrounding fields and it’s all ridiculously charming.

my mom has a wrap-around porch and a screen door and i’ve decided that there is nothing better than to hear the squeak and clack of a screen door and to sit on a country porch watching the world go by.

i only have one word for this past week: wholesome. conducive to the well-being of mind, body and spirit.

i think i am finally starting to feel like myself again.

hello you. it’s been awhile.

Sense of place is an awesome thing. You have let me imagine, through your eyes, how discombobulating it would feel to be uprooted and planted someplace…different. Not better or worse, just different. I think you are so brave to take this on, and to conquer it. It is an Amazing Thing–what you have done.

And, I am so happy that you can come back home to this side of the pond and bring all the wonder of it to life. xoxoxo

That screen door is ever open to you my beautiful daughter. I already miss you horribly. The emotions are high and the tears flow a bit too easily even though I’m actually going to see you tonight. So I’ll kick myself in the butt and paste a smile on my face and we’ll all have a good time. After all how can we not in a place called La Grosse Bertha. tee hee
