site under renovation
I don’t know if it’s age or winter or the simple realization that less really is more but I am SO feeling the gray and white tones lately. When I started photography, I was all about high contrast, saturated colors and pictures that packed a punch. But I’ve since become quite fond of subdued tones, soft moods, faded colors. More nostalgia, less noise. Photos that make you feel like perhaps you are stepping into another time. Photos that make you want to take a deep breath. And I want my blog to reflect those qualities.
So we’re renovating around these parts, have you noticed? Same old flat with a fresh coat of paint. This blog has remained virtually unchanged since its inception and until I can afford to buy a new home and migrate from this humble abode to my very own domain name (rather than the longest url known to man… why I chose such a never-ending blog name is beyond me), I felt the need to redecorate, move some furniture around, dust the shelves. There are still a few things to do to make the place a little more homey, but so far, change feels good.
Also…. Saturday morning, the most glorious light poured into my kitchen and instead of doing the million and one things I should have been doing, I got entranced and ended up taking photos for 2 hours. That’s 250 photos, people. I am a woman obsessed.
Still, I would do it all over again. Light like that don’t come around every day. And when it’s -30 degrees outside, you have to get your photo fix somehow and suddenly things that have been sitting next to you, unnoticed for months, take on a different shine under morning’s charming light and you realize you have a house full of subjects just waiting to be captured.
There is beauty at your fingertips. Always.
so love these – been admiring them on Flickr! Love that you got obsessed and kept it going!
these photos = love. xo
Clean and crisp and POPPING. Beautiful. I fell in love with your words first; your photos were just icing on the cake of gorgeousness. …but these new, more colorful snaps are divine!
I didn’t go out on Saturday either – brrrr x a million.
Love the greys & whites & silvers too. I have a grey mock-turtleneck shirt and a pile of grey sweaters and I seem to wear minor variations of those combos every day (jewelry = bit of colour). Grey is in!
Your turquoise bowl is lovely. And I’m pretty fond of the bananas too.
yes there is beauty at our fingertips.
yes!
thanks for the reminder
love your new look & your photos
but love you more
loving these – i’ve been so swamped that i haven’t been on flickr this week so i will have to meander over there to see more.
keep it up.
i got out a bit saturday and took 194 myself. though i deleted about 30% of them.
beautiful.
Great way to use a Saturday morning. Good for you and good for us. 🙂
I stop by here on a regular basis and must say, when I clicked by yesterday and noticed the different format I went, Oooooh… I wanted to drop you a line then but was in the midst of avoiding a gah-zillion things of my own. (I’m doing the same thing at this very moment, actually.) I love the look you’ve chosen. I find myself at times, flipping through the available themes wp has to offer to see how to switch things up at my cyber home. I would love to rearrange, shuffle, tab and categorize… One day. I’m LOVING your reno. Your photos look SPECTAC! Everything looks so CLEAN and UNCLUTTERED. Just so you know, I really liked how it looked before, too.
BTW, don’t you love digital photography? Think of how much 250 shots would have run you. I went to the Beaches in Toronto the other day and snapped over 400. I need to delete a bunch of them but that is freedom! : )
The site changes look good! Also, beautiful photographs. 🙂
oh yes, these photos completely describe my mood right now … love love love … oxoxo
this bowl, these oranges, this table! ah, what light. great album! much appreciated in this winter time… is there such a thing as a winter doldrum… i think not, but there should be… such a beautiful shot. how about the cereal…. was this lit by a pendant above it? im curious. your composition’s really struck down, its really clean. its a pleasure to see things through your eyes. thank you for this group– what fun!
You’re right, beauty is at our fingertips. Love the photo of the cereal with bananas and milk, yummy!
