merry magic

December 24, 2009

i know it’s not always easy
i know there is a lot of running around
and last minute shopping and baking and wrapping and cleaning
and there will be family matters
like the uncle that gets too drunk and says inappropriate things
or the person you forget to buy a gift for
and there will most certainly be kitchen disasters
the overcooked turkey
the mushy mashed potatoes
but none of those things matter unless you let them matter
so the turkey is about as dry as a soda cracker
that shit is funny
it’s not about making everything perfect
it’s about finding those little moments of magic
amidst the chaos and the imperfection
about looking around you
and seeing the love that ties you all together

if you can focus on those things
i can assure you
you will have a very merry christmas
and that is my wish
for you and you and you

happy holidays!

me and flo spent chrismas morning listening to that cd you made me a year (or is it two?) ago. his mother found it somewhere and was playing it on full blast in her house. we listened to it last before we started going through a year long bad patch in our relationship which was only repatched a couple of days ago. so it was awesome to be in a new good space listening to something that we listened to in an older good patch.

haha and then the motherf*ucking *sshoe song came up and flo’s mother (it was her first experience of the cd) stopped singing along mid sentence and we could hear her rushing across the patio to change the track. we laughed so much our dogs got worried.

    ps if i ramble i apologise – i’m in a post Christmas stupor πŸ˜‰

have a wonderful new year πŸ˜€
